About me
My name is Magdaléna Waage (September 29, 1968), I live and work in Prague. After graduation from the Faculty of Education, Charles University (1999), branch of study - English Language and Art Education I still have been dealing with both disciplines, art and linguistics. Since 1994, I was teaching English at Elvis Private School, Anglo-Germanic Business Academy, Belohorska Elementary School, Tutor Language School, and currently I am teaching English at the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU, where I lead courses of professional English dedicated to future architects and designers.
My ceramic career kick-started in 1996 when I established my ceramic workshop during my studies. At first I was devoted to ceramic jewelry, tiles and silk painting. Gradually, I switched to larger formats. Ceramic paintings, garden ceramics and lights of all kinds began to emerge. I also designed custom-made ceramics for private interiors. My inspiration was the landscape captured on my travels (Tuscany, North America, Ireland, Brittany, and many others). I am also inspired by the underwater world, Indian cultures and Celtic mythology - the world of elves, nymphs and dragons. Since 2000, I have been organizing my own ceramic exhibitions. Ceramics for me is an eternal struggle with mass but also the joy of the emerging shapes, trying and discovering new glazes and mainly the moments of tension and the expectation during opening of each kiln ......
For the last four years, I have added to my work an oil painting that gives me, unlike earthy ceramics, lightness and the possibility to express myself immediately. I create dreamy landscapes that are difficult to create in ceramics. Landscape is my permanent theme, it has just turned into a form of glowing forest with sun, airy chateaus, space landscapes and other visions. Color is here for me the play with the world of harmony and contrast, the experience of joy and peace of mind during creation.
